Denver City Council passes the Denver Retail Marijuana Code, adding a new Article V to Chapter 6 of the Denver Revised Municipal Code.
SMART Colorado identifies many deficiencies in the code, including:
- There are no limits on the number of retail stores in Denver
- Sales are permitted 7 days a week, including Sundays
- Unrestricted sales of marijuana laced candy and soda are allowed
- Highly potent marijuana concentrates are treated the same as marijuana flowers and sold in the same quantities
- Childcare establishments are not guaranteed a 1,000 ft. buffer zone
- Parks, playgrounds, recreation centers and universities are not given ANY buffer zone
- No provision whatsoever funding a public marijuana awareness campaign
