Together We Have Made a Difference!
With Your Help, We Are Protecting Colorado’s Kids

Dear Smart Colorado Members:
Throughout this spring important and hard earned protections were constantly in jeopardy. With your support and the courageous efforts of many, we have already made many accomplishments this year:
  1. The Healthy Kids Colorado Survey was left in tact! After several months of meetings, providing testimony and working collaboratively with other youth serving organizations; this important statewide youth survey was left in place. Click here to thank State Board of Education members and Dr. Larry Wolk, Director of CDPHE, for their support and leadership on this issue.
  2. Heightened public awareness and urgency around the dangers marijuana edibles pose to the public, particularly Colorado youth. Efforts to repeal this most basic right for citizens to know if marijuana is in a food or candy were overwhelmingly stifled (read more from former Colorado First Lady, Dottie Lamm). This is an issue Smart Colorado spent over a year raising awareness on while actively engaging community members through our “Spot the Pot” education campaign.
  3. Additional protections in the most unregulated and untested areas of Colorado’s marijuana markets were included in several bills. Separating marijuana out from ‘all other drugs’ when it comes to school incidences, (HB 15-1273) will finally allow our schools and the state to better assess youth marijuana prevalence.
  4. Marijuana tax revenues have not been the windfall Coloradans expected or were promised, it is critical Coloradans vote yet again for the state to retain them for youth education, prevention and treatment, and schools construction.
Of course, we can’t continue to have a collective impact without your sustained help and support.
With deep appreciation and gratitude,
The Smart Colorado Team
